About Taoquen · The Academy of Qi

Everything here begins with one question: what is Qi?

Taoquen is a TCM Wellness Academy in the Wu Ming lineage of Grand Master Nan Lu. Before you meet the school, meet its subject — the one word every class, every program, and every practice comes back to.

QI CONTAINED — LIFE
While it is held, you are alive. The practice is learning to hold more.
Chapter 壹 — Life is Qi

Not a metaphor. The definition of being alive.

Ask a Western dictionary and Qi is “vital energy” — a poetic idea. Ask the classics and the answer is starker. Master Zhuangzi defined human life itself by it: Qi held inside the body is life. Qi dispersed back to its source is death. Nothing mystical added — that is the whole equation.

“When Qi is contained inside the body, you have life. When the Qi spreads out of the body, your life ends.” Zhuangzi — as taught in the lineage

Modern physics quietly agrees on the exchange rate: E = mc² — energy and matter are interchangeable. The lectures we teach from put it simply: Qi = mc². Your body is matter; your life is the energy moving through it. Change the energy and the matter follows.

So “what is Qi?” is not trivia. It is the most practical question you can ask about your health, your emotions, and your energy — and it unfolds in four levels.

Chapter 貳 — The four levels

Qi is deeper than “energy.”

“Energy” is only the first floor. The teachings map four levels inside the one word — touch each ring and go deeper.

1 · Power 2 · Information 3 · Consciousness 4 · Life Source 氣 Qi
Level 1 — the obvious floor

力Power

Yes, Qi is energy — but ask what kind. Muscle Qi is not tendon Qi; knee Qi is not elbow Qi. And half of your power is invisible: focus, patience, inner peace, creativity. Each is its own kind of Qi.

“I have no energy today” — is that mental energy, emotional energy, or physical energy? The answer changes everything.

Level 2 — Qi carries a message

息Information

Qi tells you who, where, how, and when. A symptom is never random noise — its timing, its location, and its season are all data.

Hay fever: why spring, and not summer? Spring belongs to the liver. Itchy eyes? The eyes are the liver’s window. One allergy — that much information.

Level 3 — Qi has a purpose

神Consciousness

Every season’s Qi carries a purpose: spring’s wisdom says “this is the moment to grow.” The tree knows it, the farmer knows it — the practice is learning to know it too, in your own body.

Different Qi carries different consciousness — which is why the same exercise, in the wrong season or direction, gives a different result.

Level 4 — the most profound

道The Life Source

Your body’s Qi is not privately yours — it is universal Qi, on loan. “You are the child of the universe” is not a greeting card; at this level it is a technical statement.

“While I practice Qigong, I practice universal Qi inside of me — whatever I show, I show the image of the universe.”

Chapter 叁 — Qi keeps time

Your Qi runs on a clock. Symptoms read it aloud.

Each meridian receives its strongest supply during its own two hours. When something always happens at the same time of night — that timing is the diagnosis.

Case · from the lectures

The midnight migraine

Twenty years of migraines, always near midnight, every test normal, nothing worked. The clue was never on a scan — it was on the clock: 11 pm–1 am belongs to the gallbladder, and the temples are its territory. Treat the liver and gallbladder — not the pain — and the twenty-year problem ended in two treatments.

Case · from the lectures

The 3 am cough

Coughing at 3–4 in the morning, like clockwork? Those are the lung meridian’s hours. The lung itself is usually fine — the cough is the effect. The meridian simply doesn’t have enough Qi to meet its own supply time. Strengthen the energy, and the organ stops sounding the alarm.

The body you can see
— yang —
The body you can’t
— yin —
Chapter 肆 — Two bodies

You are wearing a second body.

Inside the physical body runs an entire energy body — the meridians, the network your Qi travels. Blood is yang: everyone can see it. Qi is yin: almost no one can. And in this tradition the rule is blunt — the real strength is always at the invisible part.

The meridians come with an unusual lease agreement. The teachings say they are yours to use, but never yours to own — like a leased car, issued at birth and returned to the life source at the end. You can donate your organs. You cannot donate your meridians.

This is why the same treatments touch different depths: acupuncture nudges the meridians; herbs reach the organs and only knock on the meridians’ door. But to change the root — and to find what else this body can do — the change must happen at the meridian level. And the only practice that works there directly is Qigong.

Everyone has Organ Qi you have organs, you eat food — you have Qi
Practice awakens Meridian Qi reached only through the right Qigong
Chapter 伍 — The Qi account

Qi is a bank account. Most of us only withdraw.

Qi accumulates like savings: increase the income, cut the expenses. Every physical and emotional condition is an energy debt. Tap a day’s deposits and withdrawals — watch the balance move.

INCOME practice · letting go EXPENSE worry · anger · rushing “It is just like saving money — increase your income, cut your expenses.”

Your Qi is a bank account. Tap what fills a day — and what drains it.

Withdrawals — the expense account
Deposits — the income account

The engine metaphor from the lectures: nobody parks the car and leaves the engine running — yet we worry continuously. A real practice teaches all three: how to increase energy, how to save it, and how to use it.

Chapter 陸 — Qi is in your food

A salad and an apple are not the same meal.

Every diet counts the visible — calories, vitamins, macros. The teachings ask about the invisible: how much time, information, and consciousness is in the food?

Three to four weeks

The salad

From seed to leaf in under a month, most likely in a greenhouse. It is food — but think about the time. How much can a month hold?

One full year Four seasons, one fruit

The apple

The tree survives a winter of cold it is required to have, catches spring’s exact moment, cooperates with the bees, holds on through storms — a complete cycle of natural law, delivered into your hand.

“When you eat this apple — what did you eat? Energy, information, or consciousness?” The question that changes every meal

Chapter 柒 — The school

You cannot read your way to Qi. Not even here.

Everything above is a map — and the teachings are clear about maps: the real Qi experience happens without the mind. You can memorize every level and still not know what Qi feels like, the way no description of water teaches you to swim. At some point, someone who has experienced it has to pass it to you directly.

That is what Taoquen is for. The name is short for Tao Quantum Entanglement™ — entangle with the Tao — and the academy teaches one thing: pure Wu Ming Qigong, live and in small groups online, in the unbroken lineage of Grand Master Nan Lu, so that Qi stops being a page and becomes an experience in your own body.

“I am a student of Grand Master Nan Lu. Everything I teach comes from his tradition — his ideas, his framework, his decades of wisdom. My role is to share what I experienced, not to own what I learned.” The instructor

An unbroken lineage

Wu Ming Qigong, passed master to student for over 2,500 years, carried today by Grand Master Nan Lu — founder of the TCM World Foundation in New York.

Live, small, online

Qi is transmitted, not streamed. Every class is taught in real time, in groups small enough that the teacher knows your body and your progress.

Experience before theory

You practice first; the framework then explains what you already felt. Because you cannot understand TCM until you have experienced Qi.

One system, kept pure

The tradition warns against mixing energy practices — each system guides Qi in its own direction. Here you go deep in one, not shallow in five.

Epilogue — from words to Qi

The page ends where the practice begins.

Start free — a live class, or the daily Four Energy Gates practice — and let your body answer the question this page can only ask. No theory required. Bring a body.
